What the grader checks
What the grader looks for when you test your website
The grader pulls figures from Google and reads the code of the page you paste in. The findings are grouped in four areas: SEO, AEO, speed and structure.
-
Why is our site so slow on mobile?
Speed is measured on mobile
Core Web Vitals from Google PageSpeed Insights: how fast the content appears, whether things jump around and how long the page is busy.
-
Do our pages have titles Google can use?
The basics of SEO are checked
Title, meta description and the H1 and H2 headings. They are some of the first things Google reads when a page is indexed.
-
Does Google understand what kind of business we are?
Structured data explains the business
The grader looks for schema such as Organization and FAQPage, which makes it easier for Google and AI to know who you are.
-
Can ChatGPT even read our website?
You see whether AI is allowed to read the site
The grader reads robots.txt and sees whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended are let in. An old rule can shut them out.
-
How does Google know it is really us?
Links that confirm who you are
The grader looks for links to Google Business Profile, Trustpilot and LinkedIn, which connect the website to a real business.
-
Why does our link look strange on Facebook?
Social sharing is checked too
Without OpenGraph tags, Facebook and LinkedIn pick their own image and text when someone shares the page. The grader checks whether the tags are set.

Questions about the free website grader
What the grader measures, how long it takes and what to do with the answer.
What is the difference between the website grader and the SEO audit?
The website grader is the broad check. It measures speed with Google PageSpeed Insights and looks at SEO, AEO and sharing in the same report.
The SEO audit goes deeper on SEO alone, with alt text, internal links, canonical tags, sitemap and more types of schema. It doesn't wait for Google, so it finishes faster. If you wonder why a page isn't being found, the SEO audit is the better choice.
Why does the grader take up to a minute?
Because Google PageSpeed Insights loads your page on a simulated mobile phone and measures how quickly it is ready to use. It takes time, but gives numbers close to what Google itself sees.
The rest of the check is done in a few seconds. If you wait longer than a minute, either the page is very slow or Google isn't responding at that moment.
What are Core Web Vitals?
Core Web Vitals are Google's measures of how a page feels to use: how quickly the main content appears, whether things move around while the page loads, and how quickly the page responds when you tap.
The grader shows the figures for mobile, together with Speed Index and how long the page is busy with scripts. Mobile is the strictest measure, and it is the mobile version Google uses when it assesses the page.
What happens if PageSpeed Insights doesn't respond?
Then speed gets a neutral value, so you still see the results for SEO, AEO and structure. The report says so when it happens.
Usually it is a temporary limit at Google. Since the result for an address is cached for 24 hours, you get the real numbers when you test again the next day. If you want to see them right away, you can run the address directly in PageSpeed Insights.
Can I test a competitor?
Yes. The grader works on any website that is open to everyone, so you can compare yourself with two or three competitors and see where you fall behind.
Speed varies a little from one measurement to the next, so small differences in score mean little. Look for clear differences instead, such as a competitor having schema and you not, or their site being much slower than the others.
Is a free website grader enough to judge a website?
No, but it is a good start. The grader measures what a machine can read: speed, code and tags. It can't see whether the text is good, whether the images fit or whether visitors find what they are looking for.
A page can score well and still bring in few leads, and the opposite happens too. Use the grader to find technical errors, and judge the content separately.
What do I do with the result?
Start at the top of the list. Titles, meta descriptions and sharing tags can often be fixed yourself in your publishing tool.
Slow loading usually takes more: smaller images, fewer plugins, better hosting or changes to the code. You can get hosting and maintenance from us even if your website was built by someone else, and if you want a review first, you can book a call.
