When nobody owns the website

You

An email arrives about new versions of your plugins. It sits there until next week, and then the week after.

You

A customer calls and asks whether you have closed down. The website just shows a white page.

You

Someone deleted the homepage by accident, and you don't know whether there is a copy.

You

The site has become slow, and you notice people leave before it has loaded.

With Thor and the team

You

The updates were tried on a copy of the site and installed. Nothing broke.

You

The alert came before anyone called, and we started troubleshooting.

You

Last night's backup is restored, and the homepage is back in place.

You

The monthly report shows how speed has developed, and flags it when the site has become slow.

How Thor and the team work

Maintenance you never have to think about

Thor is coming to the app before Christmas. Until then our team does the job the same way, and you get a report every month.

1

We go through the site

Before the agreement starts, we look at which versions are running, which plugins are used, and whether anything is outdated.

2

Updates are tested on a copy

WordPress, the theme and plugins are updated regularly, and the updates are tried on a copy of the site before they go out.

3

A backup every day

If someone deleted a page, or an update went wrong, we restore a copy from before it happened.

4

An alert when the site goes down

Uptime is monitored around the clock. If the site goes down, we get an alert and start troubleshooting.

5

A report every month

The report shows what has been done: the updates, the backups, the uptime and the speed.

Before you decide

It is fine to be skeptical

The short version: the site is kept up to date, secure and online, and you have someone to contact.

Does a small website really need maintenance?

Yes. WordPress, themes and plugins get new versions all the time, and many of them close security holes. A site left untouched for a few months often has several known holes.

Can't the web host do this?

Many web hosts look after the server, but not the WordPress site itself. Updates, testing, cleanup after hacking and changes are rarely included.

What if an update breaks the site?

That is why we try the updates on a copy first. If something breaks, we fix it there, before it goes out on the live site.

Who does the work before Thor is ready?

Our team. Thor is coming to the app before Christmas, and until then people on our team do the same job under the same rules.

Questions and answers

Common questions about WordPress maintenance

What people wonder about before they sign a WordPress care plan.

What is the difference between WordPress hosting and maintenance?

Hosting is about the server the website sits on, and maintenance is about the WordPress installation itself. Hosting is the server, backups, SSL and uptime monitoring.

Maintenance is the work on the site: updating WordPress, the theme and plugins, testing that everything works afterward, cleaning up after attacks and making small changes. Many hosting providers only do the first. We can take both, or just the maintenance.

What should a WordPress care plan include?

At a minimum: updates to WordPress, the theme and plugins, testing after the updates, a daily backup stored somewhere else, monitoring of uptime and security, and what happens if the site gets hacked.

Also ask how fast they respond when something goes wrong, how much time is included for changes, and whether you get a report on what has been done. If cleanup after hacking isn't in the agreement, it often becomes an expensive extra bill.

How often does WordPress need to be updated?

Security updates should go in as soon as they arrive, and the rest regularly. WordPress, themes and plugins get new versions all the time, and a site left untouched for a few months often has several known security holes.

We try the updates on a copy of the site first, so an update doesn't break anything on the live site.

How much does WordPress maintenance cost?

Maintenance has no separate price with us. It is part of the monthly service for your website, together with hosting, security and the app, both when we build the website and in every growth package.

Updates, backups, monitoring, cleanup after hacking and the monthly report are always included, and how much time we have for changes each month follows the package. If you already have a site, you get a fixed price after a short chat.

What happens if the site gets hacked?

Then we clean it up, and that is part of the agreement. We remove the malicious code, or restore a clean backup from before the attack.

Afterward we close the hole they came in through, most often an outdated plugin, and change passwords where needed. You are told what happened and what we have done.

Do you take over sites that others have built?

Yes. We take over the maintenance of WordPress sites that others have built, or that you have built yourselves.

Before the agreement starts, we go through the site: which versions are running, which plugins are used, and whether anything is outdated or no longer developed. If something should be cleaned up first, we tell you and explain what it involves. Then you decide.

Can you maintain the site if the hosting is somewhere else?

Yes, we can maintain the site where it is, as long as we get access to WordPress and the server. That works fine with the common hosting providers.

The downside is that responsibility gets split. If the server goes down, the hosting provider has to fix it, and we can only report it. That is why we often recommend keeping hosting and maintenance together with us, but you don't have to.

What is in the monthly report?

The report shows what we did that month: which updates were installed, that the backups were taken, and whether we found or stopped anything on the security side.

It also shows uptime and how speed has developed. If we see something you should act on, we write it there, for example a plugin that is no longer developed or a page that has become slow.

How long is the commitment?

If we build your website, hosting and maintenance are part of the monthly service in the website package, which has a 12-month commitment. In the growth packages the service is included too, and there it is 3 months' notice.

The site, the content and the domain are yours all the way. If you leave, we help you move the site to yourself or to a new provider.
